When I bought the book I knew I was getting more than what I paid for. The book covers personal history and delicious meals my husband and I can cook and enjoy. The instructions are easy to follow and it helps us plan our weekly meals which are exactly what we need to eat and live on a Mediterranean diet and be healthy!
This book is not only a great cookbook, it is a great story! It is so nice to be able to learn about an author...which you don't get to do very often. Shaw shares intimate stories of his upbringing in Jordan and great stories of his family. The stories make all the recipes feel so more personal. The recipes are awesome and the pages are so attractive and full of great dietary information. This is really a reference book. I love looking through it to find the next yummy receipe to prepare! and what a great title...Savor the Spices of Life...I think we should all try to do more of that!!
I am a very healthy eater already, so what I love about this book are the "Discussions" and reference pages that explain spices, fiber, vitamins, dairy, sugar, salt, and so much more. I get to learn so much from this book aside from all of the wonderful recipes. Not only do I understand how to eat/cook healthy, I now know WHY these foods are healthy! And I LOVE the nutritional information! What an amazing addition to this book that makes it so unique. Every dish I prepare has it's own label that includes serving, size, calories, fat, sugar, carbs, and so on. Just terrific. I so appreciate all of the very apparent effort that was put into this book, from the beautiful photos, the personal stories, and the "Discussions," to the easy to follow directions and healthy cuisine!
As a health freak, I'm always on the look out for new delicious, and healthy recipes. With all the hype about the Mediterranean diet, I had a feeling this would be just the cookbook for me, and boy was i right!! Shaw's Savor the Spices of Life is packed full of recipes that will satisfy even the pickiest of eatters. These recipes are easy to make, and easy to enjoy!
I'm loving going thru the book and finding amazing array of tastes and flavors. Tonight my entire dinner was from this cookbook. I prepared it easily and my husband loved the mix of flavors. Chicken Dijon, with sides of Greek pasta and cucumber salad. My abundant supply of cucumbers this year is no problem as I've also made Shaw Rabadi's cucumber based yogurt sauce. I'm eager to make many of the recipes I've previously enjoyed at his restaurant and catering. Love the style of the cookbook as well; easy to find recipes through index and as foods are arranged by type; spiral binding keeps book open to desired page; photos actually look like finished product; and pages easily wipe off and remain clean. I bought extra copies to give as gifts. You should too.
I own over one hundred cookbooks and this is my new favorite. The recipes are conducive to healthy eating without compromising flavor. I've found that I really don't need all that salt as evidenced by the delicious low salt recipes contained in the book. I've already made the Chickpea Salad, Bi-Tahini Hummus, Lamb Meatballs, Moroccan Chicken and Cucumber Yogurt Sauce. I will make all of these again!!! I'm going to use the recipes in this cookbook to work on lowering my blood pressure and cholesterol. The book is endorsed by doctors and nutritionists. In addition to the excellent recipes, the author has provided a view into his life growing up in Jordan and the Mediterranean diet. I guarantee you will love this book. Forget going out to expensive restaurants, you can make better food using the recipes in this cookbook.
I'm very excited to have Shaw's book "Savor the Spices of Life" in my hands! I took 6 months of cooking classes at his restaurant in 2010 and have personally tasted many of the recipes in this book. He shared, in class, so much of his growing up in Jordan and his healthy style of eating. He spoke lovingly about his mother and grandmother and their tremendous cooking qualities. Now, through his personal prologue I get to read the rest of the story! I actually can see the relatives he spoke about through the wonderful pictures in this book. I would strongly recommend this book for not only his personal touch but for his tips, strategies, facts, and last but not least his recipes for heart-healthy eating. My husband (who also came to quite a few classes with me--was i surprised!) does not eat meat because of being treated for his heart. The Mediterranean way of eating has really helped both of us to be more aware of what we eat to take better care of ourselves. We're eating more fresh ingredients, more grains, fresh vegetables and fruit, less fat, less salt, etc. I think you get it! I bought his colorful spiral story-cookbook and love the way the pages turn so i can fold it to the recipe i need and put it near the stove. I am so thrilled to have this cookbook in our kitchen to continue to cook his recipes taught in class and experiment with the new ones. Yes, Shaw, we both continue to try to achieve ta3m in our cooking, thanks!
